Having experience rich in a variety of roles, it is my absolute passion to work with and support other Social Workers to get the most out of their positions and in turn, be more productive and effective for their clientele and communities. As well as developing on practice, I like to take a therapeutic approach to Supervision, ensuring it is a time that practitioners can have their holistic needs met and 'fill their own cup' too.
I supervise a diversity of Professionals from a range of organizations, cultures and kaupapa. I like to work with people to both support them in practicing Bi-Culturally and in alignment with Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and/or Multi-Culturally. I am mindful of and gently move workers towards decolonization, as an under pinning approach, working to bridge understanding of Maaori Tikanga and culture, as well as supporting Maaori to be empowered and supported within their roles from a cultural stand point.

Testimony from waiata....
I have been in my role as a crisis response social worker for almost a year. Getting the right support is so valuable in ensuring I can reflect on my practice, recognize (and being reminded) of my strengths and identify any areas of improvement. Looking for the right external supervisor for me, meant I wanted to ensure I was comfortable, yet challenged. That I could speak my truth of where I am and what my goals and desires are. I wanted to be asked questions that would cause me to ‘reflect’ and leave me with the power to make any changes. I wanted to ensure the person I was spending my time with had a genuine and organic wairua that I could connect with. With Mel, I have found these pertinent qualities. I can tell, that her wealth of skills and experience underlies her approach with me. One of Mel’s strengths is being able to tune-in with me and to flow with the direction our sessions need to go. This has ensured I come away from each session empowered and aligned to my professional and personal goals. I have learned to be more compassionate with myself and have embraced this as a valuable self-care tool. I’m so grateful to have Mel on my team!"
